Our traditional Square Black Tetsubin Cast Iron Teapot Set has a simplistic design in textured black with a red lid. This set includes 1 teapot with stainless steel infuser, 1 trivet and 2 teacups. Tetsubin or cast iron teapots were originally used to boil water or placed over a hearth to provide heat and humidity during cold weather. During the mid 19th century as infused tea drinking became more popular, the Tetsubin evolved from being a kitchen item to a status symbol and became elaborately decorated with high relief designs. Today, Tetsubin teapots are not used to boil water or placed on the stove, but are used only for brewing and serving tea. Tetsubin teapots enhance the flavor of tea and are preferred by all masters of tea ceremonies. The inner surface of the teapot features a coating of black enamel to help prevent the development of rust. Simply spoon loose tea leaves into the infuser and pour hot water into the teapot. Cover and allow brewing for 3 to 5 minutes and enjoy! Cast iron retains the heat well for your next serving. Our beautiful Square Tetsubin Teapot holds approximately 24 fluid ounces. Each teacup holds approximately 4 fluid ounces. Makes a wonderful gift and will bring years of enjoyment!
